CITY
OF ORLANDO - FLORIDA CITRUS BOWL/CAMPING WORLD STADIUM
$208
Million Renovation in less than Ten Months
When
the City of Orlando
approved demolition and reconstruction of 80% of the
City’s iconic Citrus Bowl in 2012, the biggest challenge facing the development
team was to complete the project in a ten-month period—in order to avoid loss
of revenue and maintain continuity of several annual marquee events. The City
turned to SC Advisors to lead the project.
Ground
was broken the day after the annual Monster Truck Jam—on January 30, 2013. Our
team was charged with the replacement of the entire lower bowl seating
structure, new ground and mid-level concourse, new premium seating areas, food
service and concession facilities, back of the house operations and field
improvements—all integrated into a contemporary design with state of the art
vertical circulation to three concourses.
The
delivery model to meet this aggressive schedule required that over 100 million
hours of work in place be painstakingly choreographed to ensure the complete
integration of disciplines and extraordinary levels of cooperation and coordination.
The exhaustive planning paid off.
On
November 19, 2013, 295 days after work commenced, the ribbon was cut and three
days later, the stadium welcomed over 40,000 Florida Classic fans to the new
venue.
